エルヴィスとＢ・Ｂが幼い頃から教会に通い、慣れ親しんだゴスペル。
ゴスペルほど、本場のアメリカで聴いてみたいと思うものはありません。
どうしても黒人のゴスペルが聴きたいのです。

だいぶ前ですが、テレビで「Amazing Grace」のことを取り上げて、どうしてこの歌が
生まれたのか、どんな気持ちで皆この歌を歌うのか・・・という番組をやっていました。
その時、初めてこの歌の深い意味を知ったのです。
黒人の奴隷制度と関係があることを知り、そして誰がどんな想いでこの歌の歌詞を作ったのかを知って、胸が苦しくなりました。
「That saved a wretch like me」の「wretch」に込められた作者の懺悔と心から神に対する感謝の気持ち。

「・・・そうだったのか・・・この歌は軽い気持ちでは歌えない・・・」 そう思いました。　

「Amazing Grace」　アメージング・グレイス
　　　　　　ジョン・ニュートン作と言われているアメリカの古い曲で、
　　　　　　第２のアメリカ国歌とも呼ばれている曲です。　　　　
　　　　　　エルヴィスもこの曲をカヴァーし、和名は「至上の愛」です。
